The Chilli Jam Man

19 Jul

A few months ago Millies in Leeds contacted me and asked if I would like to try out some Chilli Jam made by the famous Chilli Jam Man. Millies is an independent store selling locally sourced foods with a beauty therapy room inside also. What could be better?! Coffee and lunch and a beauty treatment whilst instore!

If you go to a foodie festival or show you are bound to bump into him or at least see his stall; indeed we spotted the Chilli Jam Man flags flying at The Great Yorkshire Show last week. It all started 4 years ago with a few jars at Pudsey farmers market and has gone on from there.

The chilli jam is available from Millies in Leeds city centre, but if you live far away from Leeds have no fear! All the chilli jams and other range of products are all available to buy online also from The Chilli Jam Man’s website.

I chose a jar of the Yorkshire Wolds chilli jam. It is of medium heat and described on the websites as follows.

“Inspired by the gentle rolling hills around Chilli Jam Central the Yorkshire Wolds Chilli Jam has lovely rolling flavours ideal for a ploughman’s lunch, a pork pie or some cheese and biscuits. Originally made as a wedding favour for our wedding it was so popular that we had to bring it out as flavour. Now one of our best sellers!”

I found it was delicious served with meats and cheese and bread.

I also used it in a few simple ways to spice up some meals…

1. Stirred through pasta

Really simple, just stir as much as you dare into cooked pasta and enjoy. Add grated cheese if you wish.

2. With leftover potatoes and cheese

Slice and fry some leftover potatoes (these were Jersey Royals), add a spoonful of chilli jam and serve topped with cheese for a really tasty lunch or side dish.

3. On roast chicken

Spread some of the chilli jam on to the raw whole chicken (or use chicken pieces) then roast as usual for a delicious blackened and tasty skin.

There are many more fantastic things to do with this Chilli Jam. Go on! Try some!!

Millies, Leeds gave me a jar of The Chilli Jam Man’s Yorkshire Wolds Chilli Jam to try out for free. All words, opinions and photographs are my own.
