Foodie Penpals April 2013

The Lean Green Bean

This month my foodie penpal is the lady herself! Carol Ann of Foodie Penpal organiser fame from This is Rock Salt blog.

I always have high expectations of my penpals as I always put thought and effort into the things that I send, so I want my sender to do the same.

I was not disappointed this month! The box contained alsorts of things. Here’s a picture and a rundown.

My Foodie Penpals parcel contents from Carol Ann

The contents are:

  • Polish chocolates – tasted of malibu!
  • Wafer biscuits – didn’t last long
  • Pate – will try that with bread
  • Homemade Vanilla extract
  • Dried lemon thyme
  • Homemade fig and coconut treats – mainly scoffed by my OH who thought that they were delicious
  • Scottish tablet – so sweet
  • Dried chillis
  • Garlic oil – from a farmers market
  • Nutmeg and a mini grater – my mum has taken these from me as for some inexplicable reason I have 2 jars of nutmeg already…no-one could use that much nutmeg in a lifetime!
  • Sourdough starter – the best bit!

I’ve had such fun getting the sourdough bubbling again. Within 24 hours I had some little bubbles and when I fed it a second time it got going really well.

I have named her Nigella and she is now in the fridge.

I’ve made 2 loaves and can’t wait to make more.

Yum! Those fig and coconut treats sound delicious! I love the two of them separately, so combined I bet they would be amazing!

Aw – how funny to see my starter on your blog! I’m so glad I sent it, and delighted you enjoyed everything else, too.
