The Bumbo – a seat to sit your baby up before they can sit up on their own.

The Bumbo is a really clever and innovative design. I had one for my daughter when she was a baby as I thought they looked really clever.

Bumbo is a South African company, but is distributed by Tomy in the UK.

I’ve put Isaac in it from being about 3 months old, as soon as your child can hold their head up on their own, they can go in the Bumbo. Isaac really likes it, he likes to be upright but not held and he can keep an eye on what is going on as he is a nosy parker!

The Bumbo is made from a moulded plastic that holds it’s shape, yet is soft and bendy to get your child in and to make sure they are comfy. The surface is wipe clean and durable. There is a safety strap which, of course, ought to be fastened just in case you’ve got a wriggler for a child.

The Bumbo comes in many colours, but this colour of green is great for boys and girls, an important consideration if you are going to have more than one child!!

I had a Bumbo for my daughter that she actually didn’t really use much as she was mobile really young and from 4 months did not want to be fastened down in one place. However, Isaac is much more chilled out than Evie was and will happily sit for a while and watch what is going on and play.

I do think that if I had had a tray to attach to Evie, I would have found the Bumbo more useful even for her. The tray allows you to put toys on to play with and they don’t constantly fall to the floor as the tray is a good size. It is quite tricky to put on, but I don’t think that is helped by the fact that Isaac is quite a big boy for his age so quite heavy. With a bit of practice though, the tray can be securely attached more easily.

When Isaac is starting to eat finger food, I think that the Bumbo will be useful to trap him nice and securely upright, as the high chair does allow him to slump or lean or bend right over forward to try to suck the tray, which the Bumbo does not.

I would recommend the Bumbo to my friends with babies as it makes a nice change as they get to 3 months and beyond to be able to sit up on their own rather than be held, laid on their back or leaned back in a bouncy chair.

I was sent a Bumbo to try out and review for free but the words and opinions are my own.
