Meal Planning Monday

This week’s mealplanning begain with a trip to Leeds market at 4pm on Saturday. We bought a tray of meat for a tenner!

Here is what it contained…

"Meat for a tenner" - 2 pork chops, 1 gammon chop, sausages, pork joint, lamp joint, mince, 2 chicken legs, steak.

“Meat for a tenner” – 2 pork chops, 1 gammon chop, sausages, pork joint, lamp joint, mince, 2 chicken legs, steak.

So this was the basis of my meals.

  • Monday – We’re eating at my mum’s
  • Tuesday – The joint of pork, cooked in the slow cooker with veg and potatoes
  • Wednesday – Chilli and rice
  • Thursday – Brisket (can’t decide whether to do it in the pressure cooker or the slow cooker) with mash and veg
  • Friday – Roast Chicken with salad
  • Saturday – Freezer dive
  • Sunday – joint as per usual.

I made some fab muffins this weekend too, recipe here!

They're great at any time of day actually...not just breakfast!

I know! The steak alone would have been six quid!

I like that you are so organised, I need to try this

It stops me over shopping and we eat the food we have in rather than buying more.

That meat was a bargain, is it them selling it off cheap before they close? I do not think I have ever had brisket, shall have to look out for it.

Yeah, the butchers were getting rid of everything that was left. Brisket is a joint of meat that needs a lot of cooking. It makes the most beautiful gravy and the meat is so tender that it falls apart. Cook it with onion and oxo in the water for hours and then thicken gravy with Bisto powder…just like my mum does!

What a fantastic bargain, I think I shall need to take a leaf out of your book and head to our market on a Thursday!
