The competition closes at midnight on Sunday, March the 10th, 2013 and I will randomly draw the winner on March the 17th.

This is what the press release says about the event:

The Cake & Bake Show – the UK’s biggest experiential event dedicated to all things baking – is proud to announce that Paul Hollywood, Dan Lepard, Simon Rimmer and Andrew Nutter will be at the show in Manchester. They will join Eric Lanlard, Peter Sidwell, Mich Turner, Juliet Sear and all of the contestants from Great British Bake Off 2012.

Expanding to three days, the Cake & Bake Show Manchester brings together all of the nation’s favourite baking stars on April 5-7. Paul Hollywood, the UK’s most famous bread maker and judge on the Great British Bake Off returns to the show, demonstrating on the main Bakery Stage and hosting live bake offs on Grainchain.com’s stand on the Sunday.

Award-winning baker and food writer Dan Lepard will be headlining the Competitions Theatre sponsored by Sainsbury’s. As well as his books, which include The Handmade Loaf and most recently Short and Sweet, he writes for Sainsbury’s magazine and has a weekly baking column in the Guardian. He is also a judge on the Australian Bake Off.

Simon Rimmer, co-presenter and chef on Channel 4’s hit weekend show Sunday Brunch, will be appearing at the show on Friday and Saturday. He runs two restaurants in the Greater Manchester area, Earle and Greens and has authored several cookbooks, the next of which is due out in Spring 2013.

Local celebrity chef Andrew Nutter will also be presenting at the show. He has received numerous awards including Manchester Chef of the Year in 2012 for his restaurant Nutters.

In addition to celeb baker demos and delicious cakes and bakes in the marketplace, features at the Cake & Bake Show Manchester include Baking Mad’s stand with live demonstrations from some of the shows stars, the Competitions Theatre sponsored by Sainsbury’s where members of the public will be invited to compete alongside stars of the Great British Bake Off and Britain’s Best Bakery, the Stork Cake Catwalk – a fashionista-themed cake competition, Billington’s giant gingerbread village, and The Lakeland Interview Stage – offering visitors the chance to quiz their favourite baking celebrities.

Visitors will also be able to book classes in the Classrooms – where baking experts will host 30 minute demonstrations covering a range of topics, as well as sessions in The Sugarcraft Academy, sponsored by Renshaw, plus new for this year – VIP tickets will be available, guaranteeing fast track entry into the show, and a front row seat at a main stage demonstration of their choice. For full details visit www.thecakeandbakeshow.co.uk

Whether you’re an amateur enthusiast looking for a fun family activity, a home baker looking for some helpful tips or a sugar-crafter on the hunt for the latest equipment, the Cake & Bake Show Manchester offers everything baking fans could want and need.

Nudge PR have donated the tickets for free and I have received a pair of tickets in return for promoting this event.

My favourite cake is my blueberry and peach cake. It’s moist, has a great balance of flavours and feels like summer on a plate!

My grandmother’s baked Jewish cheesecake. Dense, flavour-packed simplicity, unencumbered by unnecessary fancy toppings. She died 27 years ago but every time I bake her cheesecake she is with me again.

My favourite cake has to be a chocolate salted caramel one. You just can’t beat it!

My favourite cake is my mum’s pear and cinammon loaf, using the pears from the tree in our garden. She used to send me up to uni with a new one at the start of every term, with the idea that it would be good to share with friends – she was right! These days I make it myself, since the recipe is so simple – just chuck everything in a bowl, stir and bake. Simple!

A classic Victoria sponge, it’s the first cake I made with my mum

I don’t have a fave cake – but anything that I’ve made with Thomas is special. It’s mummy & boy time, he’s learning new skills (like how to completely lick the bowl out!) and then we get to sit down and eat cake as a family – my fave time!

It has to be the fairy cake, now grown up cup cake. You can add any flavour, any topping. And if you are greedy like me. Try more than one.

OOO so many choices, but if i was to pick a favourite i think it would have to be my mums lethal chocolate and toffee cake. Its a simple Bero recipe chocolate cake, but she pours over hot toffee and lets it harden, and then melted dairy milk chocolate over the top to finish. I dread to think of the calories….but its soooo worth it!!! Yummy, sticky mess!! Nom Nom!!!

Lemon drizzle cake, but I love anything my 11 year old bakes as she seems to have a ‘gift’ and they always turn out lovely.

My favourite cake is a simple Victoria Sponge – I think with some good quality jam inside and a light cake – it’s delicious! It’s also my favourite cake because it’s the first cake I ever made myself!

My current favourite is Prune cake!! The recipe was given to my by my Californian Step Mom and her mom used to make it. They were farmers in the San Joaquin valley where there is a abundance of fruit and it is like a delicious light sticky toffee pudding – can’t get enough 🙂

  15. Nell March 10, 2013 at 2:26 pm #

Christmas Pudding! If that counts as a cake. Otherwise I like a really rich ginger cake.

My mum’s ginger cake. It’s so moist and delicious and brings back so many happy memories of childhood.

My favourite cake is a Victoria sponge. You can dress it up for a special occasion or have it as it is just for the enjoyment. It’s an absolute classic!

I love lemon drizzle cake……It’s always reminds me of having a newborn-an essential part of my breastfeeding diet! Xx

  19. vicki Ellis March 10, 2013 at 10:20 pm #

My favourite cake is a good old fashioned fruit cake preferably with a piece of wensleydale cheese. I love lots of glace cherries in it and whenever I eat it, I am reminded of helping to make Christmas cake with my mum using the washing up bowl and a wooden spoon to mix everything as we didn’t have a mixing bowl big enough……happy days and special memories x

It has to be a bakewell sponge. I found it in a Rachel Allen book and it is lovely and light with a delicious almond flavour. I adapted it as i am gluten-free and it was very successful.
