I stumbled across the “Foodie Penpals” as a hashtag on twitter (#foodiepenpals) at the end of last month. As I found out more about it, I decided that I must join in!
It is organised by Carol Anne on her blog, thisisrocksalt.com and she explains that the idea started in America and now is also in Canada and in Europe.
Every month, Carol Anne works out who must buy for who. It isn’t a swap – you buy for one person and receive from another. There is a limit of a £10 spend and it must be posted by the 20th of the month. You should make contact with who you are sending to and find out if they have any special dietary needs or special requests and it is also nice to find out a little bit about them so you can send them an appropriate gift. You should send a handwritten note in your box of goodies too. Then you should blog about your gift and post it on the last day of the month and link up with the other blogs.
We all link up here. The Lean Green Bean founded the foodie penpals.
I was amused to find out that I was buying for my friend Louise. I had suggested that she might like the foodie penpals too and then I ended up buying for her! You can find out about her and her gift on her blog.
My sender was a girl in Plymouth called Jen, who has a video blog on her youtube page.
My gift was so thoughtful. After only having contact for a few days on twitter, Jen had got me sussed!!
Jen wrote me a lovely letter on the back of a recipe for super healthyquinoa energy bars.
“Hi Helen,
I hope you enjoy the items in this box. The walnut whips are delicious, I hope you think so too!
“I’ve heard peppermint tea is good for curing pregnancy induced indigestion, so thought it might come in handy,
“I also thought the curry kit might come in handy when your due date is close!
“As you’re into baking I thought you would appreciate the cupcake cases,
“and sprinkles, they are very patriotic!
“The Percy pigs
“and fruit bar are treats for your little one, hope she likes them.
“I have also included a home made healthy energy bar, the recipe is overleaf, I’m addicted to these, they taste so good!
“Enjoy! Love Jenny”
So, as you can see, a really lovely and thoughtful gift. I just hope that my gift receiver liked hers as much as I did!

Jealous of all those adorably packaged snacks!

So fun to see the UK foodie penpal package contents!!
And I like seeing all the American ones. The packaging is so different!
