Popular Crafts – Spring Swap

20 Mar

For my third Craft Swap, which is arranged by Popular Crafts Magazine each month, I had to come up with a “Spring” theme. My swap partner is Stacy who is on Twitter as @sostacysews and also blogs about all her crafting antics. I know she is an accomplished sewer, so I hope that she likes my make!

I had decided that I wanted to do patchwork already and had a pattern for a tablecloth in a book. I had had one go at quilting before when I made a table runner for Christmas so I knew the basics.

I was originally thinking yellows, greens and blues, but when I went to the fabric shop, I did not just find what I wanted in those colours. I did, however, find some lovely butterfly fabric and along with some flowery fabric and changed my colourscheme to pink and yellow as some gingham fit the bill for the other patterns along with a tiny yellow flower.

I cut patterned triangles and randomly alternated them with the yellow gingham before sewing the rows together. The backing was yellow gingham too and I finished it off with a “Handmade by Helen” label.

As part of the gift you must also send a gift. I know that Stacy has been learning how to crochet so I thought that it would be fun to send a 20mm crochet hook so she could do some really chunky crochet…perhaps even with strips of cloth!

The next theme is “Union Jack” if anyone fancies a go!
