At last the day had come for my afternoon tea at Cafe Nouveau at Home: A lovely underground tearoom in Huddersfield.
We were welcomed warmly by our host Marie-Claire and sat at a lovely table set with china and silverware. The lovely sandwiches were on the table already, along with homemade sausage rolls and cheese and onion tarts.
The other guests soon joined us and everyone was friendly and talkative.
The menu had a retro theme and included ham and mustard sandwiches (on homemade bread), cucumber sandwiches and peanut butter and jelly. The cakes included batternburg cupcakes, fondant fancies, dainty coconut macarons, pineapple upside downcake and chocolate birthday cake complete with a candle as it was Cafe Nouveau’s first birthday.
And of course no afternoon tea woud be complete without scones with jam and clotted cream.
We had a lovely time, in good company, and the food was excellent as expected. You’d better book a place quickly, as they get taken quickly!
